I'm a big planetside 2 player and I frequently run the game on ultra settings. I have a gtx970 and an intel i5- 4460. Recently my fps dropped in game so I tested my performance with 3D mark. I found out my cpu was only running at 800mhz. I spent a lot of time trying to find out what had happened. I then discovered a simple change in power options got my cpu running at where it should again. Thing is I don't really want my pc to run on high performance I would prefer it to run on balanced instead. Idk what affected balanced to cause it to drop my speeds, but whatever it was it dropped it drastically. Does anyone know of a fix for my balanced settings so my cpu isn't chugging at full power at all times?

Solution
Each power profile has Advanced Power Settings. You need to go to the Processor Power Management section and change the Maximum Processor State to 100%. I assume it has somehow been reduced to 0% or 5%. In Windows 7 if you set it to 99% it disables Turbo Boost.

Thank you so much for your help! Finally my pc will be back to where its supposed to be. It was pretty annoying I feared for the worst. Glad everything was a simple fix.
