As the title suggests im in a slight situation where the 24 pin connector goes through the back of the mobo where its screwed in. usually this wont be a problem for most but i'm really uncomfortable about unsrewing the whole mobo. i need to remove it to get a new psu installed for a new gpu. i know theres probably no way of cutting corners here and will have to remove the whole thing, but if theres any chance of getting it out of there i would take it. i know its not well described but if you need any pictures please do ask but i will have to to take it in the morning

Hi Syrus,

As you already have guessed, the best thing you could do would be to remove your motherboard. Don't be afraid of it, I'm sure you'll be able to remove it just fine.

To remove the board successfully you'll need to:

-(Ideally) use a ESD wrist strap to manage electrostatic discharge while handling the mobo. If you don't have one and don't have time to get one before building, then make sure you touch the metal part of your case often while handling the internal components.

-Unhook all power and data cables going into the motherboard

-Locate and unscrew the motherboard standoff screws that is holding the motherboard in place

That really is all there is to it. Make sure you place the motherboard somewhere clean and not on...

ok seems like i would have to remove the whole motherboard, a few more questions before i do try to remove the motherboard. Would any anti static wrist band would do and where do i connect it to? And how do i know if i tighten the screws correctly in the motherboard? im really unsure of this.

The anti-static wrist band helps ground you to whatever it is connected to so that your body doesn't build up a charge and send it to your components. You connect the wrist strap to any place on your PC case that is metal (I usually clip mine onto the inside lip of the case where the side doors typically sit).

**Before you connect your wrist strap to the case make sure that you have UNPLUGGED your power supply unit from the wall**

Take a note of how snugly the standoff screws are placed when you are taking them out. You won't need to muscle them down when putting them back, just make sure that you apply a firm pressure and you will be fine.
