Would a 4790k bottleneck a 980 ti sli setup?

Just like the title asks..

Would I experience a bottleneck from a 980 ti sli? I am looking to upgrade my 970 sli setup due to buying a 4k tv and am looking to be able to power my gaming to accommodate.. Thanks for the help

Solution
No pair of GFX cards can satisfactorily (60 fps) drive 4k. 4k is also limited to 60 Hz (75Mhz possible) due to the fact that no cable exists with significant bandwidth to carry the signal.

As to the CPU, a 2500k doesn't bottleneck anything. I would recommend against 4k at this point in time not only because nothing can drive it at 60 fps, but because every one out there today will be immediately rendered "outdated" as soon as Display Port 1.3 is released and 120 Hz 4k screens arrive.

I keep reading different benchmarks and that is what has my head going left n right about this . I planned on getting a single 980ti for now and if need be to get the second one later, but from what I read the sli 980 ti setup should have no problems , ven if in a few games I would have to lower settings slightly - it would be offset by the 4k resolution I imagine

The 4790k is still a very powerful CPU. Most games come nowhere near close to putting the CPU under any sort of pressure.

The 980ti is probably fine, now that I think about it, I'm running 1440p on a 970 and that runs pretty well in most games at max.

I'm on a 4k screen with a 980 Ti, and even though I'm not getting 120FPS, I'm also not playing first person shooters. 4K is insanely better looking than 1080P, and unless some one is twitch gaming, there's no need to go 120FPS, yes, that would be ideal, but this isn't an ideal world, and just because 1.3 DP is coming, it's not here yet, and will take time to implement, so, OP can go 4K now and enjoy what is a great looking experience at playable frame rates, or wait another 2 - 3 years, *maybe* longer, for cards that can push 120FPS @ 4K. BUT 8K tvs are all ready out, he should definitely wait for that as that will be the bomb, course, that's another 5 or 6 years before video cards that can push that at 60FPS, but what's a few years if you need the absolute best experience.

It's not at all about 1st person shooters, it's about motion blur. If you are using a 980 Ti and not using G-Sync (< 60 Hz) / ULMB (> 60 Hz) you are not experiencing what the card can deliver. It's not about comparing 4k w/ 1080p, it's about comparing 4k w/ no ULMB to 1440p w/ ULMB. It's about the fact that lag times at 4k are still 5 times that of 1440p. The very best 4k monitors have a lag about 15 ms ... 16 ms ~ 1 frame @ 60 Hz. Then again if we are talking TVs as compared to monitors, that's a big step back in quality right there.

4k @ 120 Hz should arrive right about the time that cards capable of driving it.... I'm guessing holiday season of 2016.

Well I got lucky on the tv that is for sure! I ordered last years model sony 55x800b and I got it reduced for $899 shipped / no tax. Then I got an e-mail that they oversold and I had to wait, but they upgraded it to the 2015 55x810c for waiting which is now at BestBuy for $1499! So I am beyond happy about all that. And for 1st person shooters it will really just be my wife and I playing black ops 3 in the living room, some bioshock infinite and an rpg. So the fps is not going to truly make or break the scenario. But I was informed that hdmi 2.0 can deliver 4k at 60fps and the tv has the compatible input to do that. If I really wanna get the 60 fps and ultra settings I could always change the tv to a lower resolution than 4k and still have great input lag for sitting on the couch as it has low lag on game mode <25 ms if I do recall.
I bought the 980 ti from b stock and saved there, and my gtx 970 sli is selling for almost retail. So I will recoup almost all that I spent get the 980 ti for cheaper than the sli setup is selling and upgrade to a second in the future when I get the itch.
I see no real point in waiting for the tv with the deal I received that triggered all of this :)
