Hello,
After being a member for a long time, I finally decided to post, as I didn't really find answers to some of my questions after extensive research.

So, a little about my system:
Dell PowerEdge T20: E3-1225v3 + DDR3L ECC + Sandisk Plus SSD + C226 chipset + 290w psu + Mid tower case (is identical in dimensions to the precision T1700).

What I plan to do: Use a separate harddrive for Homelab VM and virtualization.
Use the SSD for Windows 10 + gaming + other casual stuff.

The graphics card that I bought, is the GTX 950 SSC from EVGA which i got a for a 160$.
I'm planning to buy a 400-500watt PSU.

You might ask, why I went for this over a building a PC/ buying a workstation/gaming pc. The short answer is, it was cheap! Without talking numbers, lets just say I got the whole system with a 1tb 7200rpm hdd for the price of a i5-4690k processor. And also, I needed a processor/chipset that also supported Vt-x and VT-d for virtualization.

Now my questions:

1) Would you recommend the GTX 750 ti over the 950 since it seems to work without the external power supply pin? Is the 20-30$ premium + buying a PSU worth it? Can the Dell 290Watt PSU be trusted if I decided to go for the GTX 750 ti and the stock PSU?

2) I'm sure not many of you might have faced this problem, but like the other Dell Precision systems and optiplex systems, my mother comes with a 8-pin proprietary power connection and a four pin CPU connection (Which i dont think proprietary). I read about the Moddiy Dell 24-pin atx to 8-pin Dell adapter and have ordered it. Since most of the threads regarding this are old, I was wondering does anyone have the latest experience with this conversion or has faced any issues?
Any suggestions as to which power supply would physically fit this case?
As noted by another member the dimensions of the current PSU are likely:
" Depth (label side) = 14cm
Width = 15cm (no room for width increase)
Height = approx 8.5cm - 9.5cm
"
3) As for the thermals, the case currently has one fan on the back which is i think 80-90mm and is quite silent unless triggered by the thermal sensor. Would a 450-500watt psu + 84watt cpu + two HDDs + 16GB RAM + GTX 950 SSC (Nvidia claims it pull about 95Watts) be sufficiently cooled in the current case?
I'm not going to be overclocking any of the components on the system.

Most of the time I'll be watching videos and play games once in a while.

I dont mind the fan noise if the tiny 80mm fan decides to spin a little faster during gaming, I just dont want my system to catch fire ;) haha.

I'd really appreciate some inputs from you all, would really help me make a choice.
(I'd really hate to return the GTX 950 SSC, it looks so beautiful :) )
