So, I bought a terrible computer from eBay a couple of years ago, and now I'm going to upgrade it. I used all of my budget to buy a Sapphire 7870xt, FX8350 and a mobo, but I didn't have enough money for a PSU... The computer currently has an ATX-500b (500watts). I need to know if the PSU can handle the GPU and CPU for atleast a year. I am not going to overclock it until I get enough money to buy a better mobo and a better PSU. I know the PSU can run the FX8350, as I'm currently running it (The GPU hasn't arrived yet, so I'm running the FX with the IGP in my MOBO.)

Thank you.

No way of even hazarding a guess without knowing the make and model of the PSU. If it's a high quality unit you'll probably be fine, if it's crap then it may take your Mobo, processor and/or GPU with it when it blows.

Probably going to depend on the exact make and model of your PSU. I'm reading 185w for the 7870, 125w for the 8350 so 310 for those on a PSU that if it's 80% efficient is going to give you 400w. I would upgrade the PSU as soon as possible to 600+ and 80+Bronze at least.

I don't know the exact make, all I know is that it's an ATX-500b switching mode. I can't upgrade at all, I used up all of my budget. Do you think it will at least last for a year?

The model is an ATX-500b.
That's all I know and that's all it says. I'll just see what happens.

Does it look like this one? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-scanfx-power-supply-with-120mm-quiet-fan-atx If so you have no chance, it only actually puts out 264w on the 12v rail which has no chance of powering both that GPU and CPU. I'm fairly certain that it doesn't have the necessary connections for you to hook up that GPU. You are going to have to upgrade the PSU before you can use that 7870 under any type of load, it may start up but won't continue running for long.

Yes, it does look like that :(
Can you recommend me any cheap PSU that will help power my computer? I don't know what to do, I'm getting really stressed.
