Minecraft doesn't run smoothly on High-End PC

Hello,

I built a new PC last summer. I can play GTA V on ultra and get around 40-60 FPS, but when I play Minecraft it becomes a real headache. You know what it feels like to play on 30 FPS and on 60 FPS, yes? It's just like 30 FPS doesn't that look smooth like 60 FPS looks.

So, when I play Minecraft it always shows FPS higher than 60, but I get something like "smoothness spikes" every few seconds. Like I said first, I don't get LAG SPIKES, no, but at 60+ FPS game looks smooth and I enjoy it but every few seconds it just turns into non-smooth for a second and then looks smooth again (the FPS doesn't change) and I don't enjoy that :(

I know that I may have not explained that clearly but maybe some people have the same issue as me.

I've tried everything I could do:

  • Played with Minecraft settings (turned up and down)
Allocated up to 4GB of RAM in the launcher (then decreased to 2GB because I thought that I've allocated too much)
Went straight into Java control panel and set -Xmx argument to use more RAM
Updated java to the latest version and deleted old versions
Checked that Minecraft F3 mode shows right number of allocated memory
Checked that Minecraft F3 mode shows that Java is 64-bit and it is using the latest version
Haven't used any mods or texture packs
Tried to set priority to high in Task Manager for jawaw.exe

I know that Minecraft is more CPU intensive game than GPU.

My CPU is Intel Xeon E3-1231v3 with 4 Cores (Hyperthreaded) and can run at 3.9 GHz on boost clock, but the CPU usage is about 20% when playing Minecraft
I have 8GB of Kingston 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 RAM (RAM usage is also small)
I play Minecraft from Samsung 850 Evo SSD
My GPU is Asus Strix GTX 960 OC

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks in advance

I know this sounds really stupid but in your minecraft settings have you tried turning off v sync ?

Yes, I have also tried that. No luck, the framerate has increased, but these smoothness spikes still showed up...

Hmm..I don't know what you can do...it could be a java problem or a a driver problem but you stated otherwise. I don't know what the problem could be sorry mate :(

Maybe, I've found the reason. I overclock my GPU when play GTA V and for that I need to keep running ASUS GPU Tweak and MSI Afterburner and then these programs are closed I am not getting any of those smoothness faults in Minecraft. Today the first game I played was Minecraft and I didn't get any "lag".

So thanks for trying to help me :) Appreciate that!

Maybe I've found the solution myself...
