I think I broke my computer. Help?

Well, I was an idiot.

After fixing an issue from a previous thread, I had my computer running to bios. The thing is, it's LOUD. So I saw a fan connector that came with my psu and attached to another part of my fans and thought: "Will this control the fan speed?" I stuck it in, a smoke rised from my psu. That said, everything still runs, but the computer will not go to the bios (and the room around my pc smells like smoke).

What should I do?

And yes, it was a molex connector.

And no, I don't see any signs of burns. that said, I can't look very well into the PSU.

Could it have broken the mobo?

So basicly you took a fan header from your psu that you plug a fan into, and plugged it into a header on your mobo, correct? If the smoke all came from the psu, and nothing else then it is possible that your mobo will still work. I assume your psu is broken now, so get yourself a new one and see if it works. I wouldnt expect some backwards power into a fan header to break a mobo, and the reason it is not working now is most likely becuase your psu is not delivering proper power to your mobo. Do not try to use that psu anymore , as it can break your motherboard because it may deliver incorrect currents. It is possible that your motherboard can still work, so just buy a new one, borrow one from a friend, or take one you have laying around and try it out. If it still wont work after that, your next move is to try a new mobo i guess. I dont think that could really break any other components in your system, and hopefully nothing else will be broken, that is if your mobo is broken. Good luck!

Thanks for your help!

I'm going to rebuy the same psu, because I don't think it is a bad one, I think I'm the one who screwed up.

I hope this works (And have I mentioned this is my first build)

I'm going to rebuy it:

The one you send is only 80+ bronze. That's the same as mine.
It's $80
The psu broke because of me, not the part

Turkey is correct. The EVGA is a moderately efficient power supply of mediocre quality. The power supply Turkey suggested is considerably better.

I'm buying this one:

EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1 80+ GOLD, 650W Continuous Power, Fully Modular 10 Year Warranty Power Supply 120-G1-0650-XR by EVGA

80+ Gold
650W
10 year warranty

Plus, even with the upgrades I might apply to my system in the future, it won't go over 650W

That's another "meh" power supply. It's just an FSP power supply with mediocre performance with a larger rice tag on it. It's an older group regulated design, which inevitably makes the PSUs struggle with voltage regulation.

There are excellent EVGA power supplies. G2, B2, and P2 are made by Super Flower and the GS is made by SeaSonic. Those are the EVGA power supplies to purchase.

I don't have enough money.

Also to everyone: I changed the psu. It still doesn't work when I use an hdmi cable, but when I use an analog one it works but shows a blank screen.

help?

hmm intresting. Possible that your gpu was broken. Do you have another graphics card laying around? anything that you can find, even a cheap $40 from a business desktop or something, just to see if it is your gpu.

alright so its not POSTing at all right? I guess you will jsut have to buy indivual parts and see if it fixes the problem and if it doesnt return it. I would start with the mobo, just buy one on amazon and if it doesnt work still you can return it completely free within 30 days. Yeah I really cant think of anything else, see what other people say and if there is no good turnout, i guess use this as a last resort.
