I currently have an I5-3570K and a gigbyte z77 motherboard, I had some problems installing my GTX 980 it didnt seem to work but is finally manageable and I can play games. I am about to get rid of my current CPU and motherboard plus some other stuff in order to upgrade. My question is skylake worth upgrading to now? It seems that every motherboard I look at has problems with DDR4 and a bunch of stuff that I dont want to run into especially considering I just bought a 980. I cant decide if I just want to save a little money and go with a little older generation or what.

There's nothing wrong with your current build if you use it just for gaming or non-CPU intensive programs. If you must upgrade, go with an i5-4690k processor and a Z97 mobo.

Honestly you won't see much of an increase going to a newer CPU unless something is wrong with it OR the board. If I were you I would try to overclock the CPU up to 42.-4.6 with an after market cooler if you have one. If you don't then I recommend the Evo 212 which can be had for around 30 dollars US.

Yeah I am thinking a 4690K as they look a good $50 cheaoer or so. Any recommendations for a good reliable motherboard? Would like a black and blue look as thats my Rig Color and will need RAM as well. How much RAM should I get for gaming? Ive had 4GB for the longest time but its about time for an upgrade I feel like with the new card. Any recommendations on good RAM as well?
