So I've been having issues with Charter for awhile now, and just to note now to get it out of the way; I'm not in charge of the ISP in the house, and nobody else does anything except browse facebook and shit so they don't notice the slowness.

Basically, I have the 30mb/s plan, which is more than enough speed. Sadly, I don't ever come close to this speed, even less so in the past month. Basically, I used to comfortably get about 2mb-5mb/s even with everyone else in the house using the internet. Now, I barely reach 1mb/s. Upload is even worse, but I don't know specifics. Basically, everything is shit. I also suffer from huge packet loss; I forget how much it was, but it was a pretty big number. It's made games unplayable, which sucks because I play competitively. Any suggestions of what I should do, calling support as a last resort because I don't like talking to people?

I had a similar issue with Charter. Turned out to be the modem. Had to have it replaced. It happened again after Charter left the state and it became SuddenLink. In both cases I took the modem to the nearest office and they replaced it (The modems were their property at the time.) If you want to invest time searching you could check ( http://www.dslreports.com/forum/charter ). Sometimes you can find information about current issues in specific areas.

talk to support... they wont do anything without talking to you, open a support ticket on the their portal - and yess you'll need to get the bill-payer involved at some stage.

depends what sort of broadband you have and distances from the phone exchange if DSL as to possible fixes.

Have you tried a wired connection into the router, could be wireless interference.

------------

It sounds like an old and/or shot modem. Call them and they can scope it for you. Shouldn't be that big of a deal.
