I just built a gaming computer and I'm getting full system freezes (mouse+keyboard unresponsive, have to hold down power button for 5 seconds to shut-off). I ran diagnostics on the hard drives, memory, and CPU with no errors. The freezes will happen both while gaming and idling.

PC specs:
CPU- Intel i5-6600k
Memory- G.Skill 16GB DDR4
SSD- Mushkin 480GB
HDD- Seagate 1TB Barracuda
GPU- MSI R9 390x
PSU- Rosewill Glacier-700M
Mobo- ASRock Z170 Pro4 LGA 1151
OS- Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

The GPU will idle at 35C and hover around 65C at load, while the CPU is 35C on idle and around 55C at load. I don't think it's a heat issue, so I'm starting to lean towards either the motherboard or the PSU. Unless it is a software issue I'm unaware of, I'm really at a loss on how to diagnose the PSU or motherboard. Can someone share some PC knowledge and help me out of this jam?

It's the power supply

You bought one of the absolute worst quality power supplies. It is a Tier 5 power supply according to the official tier list: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Description of a Tier 5 unit:

Avoid IMMEDIATELY. These units are highly unsafe to use. No such protections added, very thin gauge wiring used, false advertising and too much to list. Reference to a higher tiered unit for a better, money saving and a much safer unit. For your safety's sake, please don't order or pick one up for use in your system. These units are a potential fire hazard and could even kill you, let alone your system.

Oh, oops. The Glacier was listed in untiered, since untiered is under Tier 5 I accidentally mistook it for Tier 5. Sorry for that mistake. But still, this issue does seem highly indiciative of a PSU issue none the less and I think you should get a new one. The 390X is a high power draw card. Return this one and buy the 750W EVGA B2 on sale for $54 on Newegg right now.

I'll do that. I had a similar problem with a PSU during another build, so I just need a little push to do a return. I'll order another PSU and let you know if that fixes it.

Just bought an EVGA G2 750W, and I'm still getting freezes. Now I'm thinking it has to be the motherboard. Is there any way to run diagnostics on a motherboard?
