Hi,

I basically want to extend my wi-fi range with 2 wi-fi routers. Have followed the instructions and the only issue is, my Router A has IP address 192.168.1.1 and Router B has IP address 192.168.2.1 . I tried to change the IP address so that my primary router can identify it. Once I do this, I'm not able to open the configuration page of the secondary router.

Kindly help me change the IP address 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.1.2

Also Im not able to change the DHCP starting address 192.168.1.2 of the primary router and change it to somewhere 192.168.1.10. Because i want to assign IP 192.168.1.2 to my secondary router.

Thanks in advance.

1) You can't extend two networks(192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0). If you did, they will not be visible to each other. So they should be in the same network.
2) You can keep your primary router as 192.168.1.1 and change the other router into bridge mode. Then it'll use the DCHP of the primary router and assign IP's accordingly.

@someone somewhere - By instructions I mean I set the sencondary routers wireless security type, password and SSID to match the primary one. Turned off the DHCP settings of the secondary router. The problem is If I change the IP address of secondary router 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.1.2, I'm not able to access the admin page of the secondary router.

@Nuwan Fernando - My primary router IP is 192.168.1.1 and the starting DHCP is 192.168.1.2, not able to change the DHCP so I can assign the secondary router 192.168.1.2 which will not intervene the primary router's DHCP giving out address.

You need to connect the routers LAN port to LAN port. Don't use the WAN ports (except for your actual internet connection on the main one).

You need the IP of router #2 to be outside router #1's DHCP range. Whether than means making it .254 or moving the DHCP range doesn't matter. It's likely something else has already been given .2

@Someone Somewhere - Yes Thank you, i have already connected LAN to LAN. Issue is #2 IP 192.168.2.1 if changed to suppose 192.168.1.X , I'm not able to access the #2 admin page.

Also I'm not able to find the ending address of #1 DHCP to move the range.

1)Hope you know that you have to type the ip address of the router. Not always 192.168.1.1.
2)If you have assigned 192.168.1.2, that IP is likely to be assigned to a device already. So look for a device which says IP conflict detected if possible and run a diagnostic test where it'll assign a different IP.
3) Set the DHCP range out of the second router's IP.

Don't know what instructions you are using, but try these from the forum sticky post. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/36406-43-convert-wireless-router-wireless-access-point. Others have found them helpful.

Both routers need to be 192.168.1.xxx It is normal after changing the IP away from 192.168.2.XXX to have some initial trouble logging back into the 192.168.1.xxx network. Release then renew the IP on your machine or turn off the restart the wifi on your wireless device. Once you do this you should be able to log into either unit as long as you know both IPs and only have DHCP running on one of them.

@someone somewhere - I think I found the ending IP given out by DHCP

@Nuwan Fernando - Yes I know that the IP to access the config page of the router will be the one you set.

@Pooneil - I have followed the same steps as mentioned on the link you provided. Im gonna try release and renew and see if it works.

Since I renew the IP address, I was able to open the admin page of #2 with new IP 192.168.1.2 only once.

The DHCP on #1 starting is 192.168.1.2 and ending at .253 . I try to change the DHCP .2 to any number other than that it says "DHCP IP Pool Range Exceed Limit" and does not let me change so that my #2 can have the IP 192.168.1.2 :(

:) Finally !!!

All set. Although it was working okay before, but had glitches.
1. Could not open the config page of router#2 after changing the IP.
2. Could not change the DHCP range on router#1.

Thanks to each one of you, your suggestions and advice helped in one step or the other.

Successfull...! :bounce:
