Upgrading the CPU on a laptop (Core 2 Duo)

Hey,
I have an HP G70. This is its manual : http://

It currently has a Core 2 Duo T5800 Processor running at 2GHz per core with 2MB Cache and would like to upgrade it to a Core 2 Duo T9800 Processor @ 2.93Ghz with 6MB Cache.

The official manual states that the Core 2 Duo T9400 is supported and they both have a 1066MT/s FSB.

Do you think it would be compatible?

I don't think that the T9800 is supported (because HP should know and doesn't say it is), but I can see no reason why. The T9800 will not work with the 478 socket, so maybe that's the reason.

Are you sure? The T9600 and T9800 and T9400 are all Socket 478 CPUs. The T9400 and T9600 are confirmed working and they are very similar. The T9600/9800 aren't listed because no OEM HP G70s were fitted with them.

I don't think that Socket 478 supports the T9800. I think it is a socket 479 chip (has 478 pads, but arranged differently to 478). I remember this from some other thread I cannot find

Oh, I've read that it's socket P (i.e 478). I think I'll stick with a T9600 which I have seen working on the same laptop. Thanks! ^^

Some are socket P, some are not. If Socket P, then the T9800 should work. It is 479/P, and the T9400 is 478/P

Socket M is 479 pins I think or the configuration that is soldered that ofcourse won't work.
I think SLGES is the proper one.

Nope, I was looking at the HP service manual but I've seen the link and it shows that it is the same one as the HP manual referenced to.
