Just want to know what are the main differences in DDR3 memory and DDR4 memory.

I know DDR4 is better quality and has noice reduction and less heat production. However my DDR3 modules did last long like DDR4 would and they didnt produce high temperature anyway. So what is the main differance between DDR4 and DDR3 ram? What is DDR4 benificial to gamers than ddr3 ram modules?

The advantage is that DDR4 can run faster as lower voltages. DDR3 runs as high as 1.65v. DDR 4 runs closer to 1.2v. The problem when chosing between ddr3 and ddr4 is that Intel only recommends DDR3L while motherboard manufactures are not making that restriction clear. Tomshardware covers this in their article.

As far as performance goes. Memory performance barely matters in games. That portion of my argument was in response to the OP. But all this is really moot. If your going to buy skylake buy ddr4. Otherwise you get ddr3.

DDR4 is just the normal progression to the next step, much as DDR progressed to DDR2 and from there to DDR3, they started laying out specs for it about 10 years ago, DDR3 was originally only designed to go up to 1600 sticks by JEDEC standard, we had 2400/2666 sticks available before JEDEC ever released 'standards' for 1866 and 2133 DDR3. Biggest difference is the lower voltage, which also results in higher CLs.

DDR4 has higher CLs, which is a result of the lower voltage as stated. Take say 1.2 2133 running at a CL15 can generally be tightened dow to a lower (thus faster) CL by increasing the DRAM voltage. With DDR4 2133 is most often set with a 13 CL where in DDR3 2133 runs a tighter CL9

Ddr4's biggest advantage is it's lower voltage. Intel's memory controller is only compatible with ddr 4 and low voltage ddr3. Any more then 1.3 volts and you run the risk of burning the cpu.

In every generatiom where 2 standards of RAM were available, it never made a real difference.

Sorry but that doesn't make a lot of sense. You say 1.3 yet the standard for low voltage DDR3 is 1.35, and if you follow in sticking to low voltage DDR3 then the max you will generally find running 1.35 is 1866/DDR3. In DDR4 you can get data rates on DRAM of over 4000 (or double the bandwidth of the DDR3... Also as with previous gens of Intel CPU they provide the voltage guidelines for a CPU at spec and are specced lower than what is actually acceptable.

. Are you going to burn up a CPU using 1.35 - No, 1.4 - No, 1.5 No..........is it possible - maybe, but would more likely end up from bad voltage regulation by a mobo or a surge from a PSU, overvolting the CPU or MC, but not from basic DRAM voltages .
