Hello everyone, I've been wondering recently what the difference between a Cat 5e and a Cat 6 Ethernet cable is besides obviously the more speed. For example, If someone were to have 24 mbps download speed, would there be any difference at all from using either one? If possible can you provide explanations too? Thanks in advance!

Solution
It wouldn't matter which one you use. The benefits of Cat 6 are really only beneficial for someone using a lot of bandwidth, like someone with a server. That being said if you can get a Cat 6 for the same price as as a Cat 5e then by all means go for it, it will work just as well and limits crosstalk.

Solution
Technically, cat 6 isn't more speed, it's less loss. So in most cases the cat 5e will work as well as cat 6. The twisted pairs are twisted a bit tighter and more evenly in cat 6. And there's a central plastic channel shaped like a cross which keeps the four pairs from twisting around each other, reducing crosstalk.

As long as there's not enough loss in signal to noise ratio, cat 5e will run at Gigabit speeds just fine. I've gone up to 70 meters with cat 5e running Gigabit without problems. The cat 6 should be able to support gigabit further than cat 5e in environments with a lot of RF noise.
