I'm having a wierd issue that just started occuring on my 1080p TV. When I load games, alt-tab full screen applications, or do anything that changes my resolution I get about a 50/50 chance of getting my normal crisp 1080p HD resolution, or a 1920x1080 'PC' resolution that is extremely blurry. Running a GTX 980 with latest drivers and a fresh build of Windows 10. TV is connected with an HDMI cable. I've used this TV for a few years now on multiple rigs and I've never encountered anything like this before,. Any thoughts on how to fix?

I can keep changing my resolution back and fourth until it eventually fixes itself but this is extremely unintiutive. There has to be some setting that I'm overlooking or something.

Looks like you never actually properly set up your TV! What's happening is that your TV is scaling the image improperly because it's receiving two different outputs one after the other.

You should always use the "PC" resolution (1080p, 60Hz, and if you want normal colors rather than "tv colors", RGB mode), and set your TV to have no overscan ("do not overscan", "dot by dot", etc). You won't be able to get rid of the flicker (since that's just how fullscreen mode DX games work), but it should stop going blurry.

I should probably clarify that when the correct display is running on my TV the top right of the screen reads "1080p HD" but when it is the blurry version it reads "1920x1080/60hz"

You need to set the scaling /overscan/under scan properly for every possible screen res/refresh rate you're likely to use.

Go through graphics settings setting correct scaling for 1080p/50htz - apply resolution.
Change to 1080p/60htz - set correct scaling - apply resolution.

Do the same for 720p 50htz & 60htz if you use those sometimes too.

You're desktop default is likely 1080p 50htz & you've already set scaling for that - but you must do all the others independently as well.

Overscan is disabled on the graphics card and the TV. I enabled overscan and tested on both resolution modes and both got blurrier to a degree, but the 1080p HD was still a clearly superior picture. Scaling is also disabled. Its like the sharpness in the 1920x1080/60hz mode is dropped significantly as text is still legibile and not really blurry but images lack the definition of the 1080p HD mode.

You're going to have to post pictures. If the text is sharp at THX distances, what you're experiencing is simply the TV enabling or disabling post processing. Perhaps the images look more contrasted in "HD" mode?
