My specs are
GPU: GTX 970 SuperClocked
CPU: AMD FX 6300
MB: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+

I'm debating whether I should get an 8320 to improve my settings for Fallout 4 or not. Will my game performance improve anything substantial?

Solution
Probably pointless, in the majority of games out today the 8320 performs the same as the 6300 at the same clock speed, most games don't make use of the extra logical cores on the 8320 i pondered that upgrade myself decided it was not worth it. Just overclock the 6300 if you want a bit more performance out of it.

I would hazard that an FX 6300 paired with a 970 will be fine, you won't know til its released. Have you overclocked the 6300?

I would not recommend you buy another AMD cpu for the that matter. the 8320 is the same age as the 6300 - which is old in computer terms.

If you upgrade, go intel.

Thanks for all your opinions.

I've overcooked my 6300 to 4.3. I might be able to push it a bit further. (My cooler is the evo 212)

I am not looking at dumping too much into this upgrade. I'm going to wait until I see what AMD releases before I make my big upgrade.

It is difficult to say since the game has not been released yet.

The best way to gauge performance is to look at the below CPU benchmark for Skyrim since Fallout 4 will be using an updated Creation Engine that was designed for Skyrim. A Radeon HD 7950 was used in the benchmarks.

i have a gtx 770 and a fx 6300@4.2 stable with a good cooler you should be able to overclock it very well. Ive seen some at 4.8 ghz.....anyways upgrading to the 8320 is a waste of money. gaming is very little performance gain. i played the Battlefront beta at constant 60fps ultra setttings fxaa and res cale at 115%. sooooooo you should be good....especially with a 970.
