I'm working on a project and I have to set up a network for a small business (5 PCs) and I'm looking into some options for storage and backup. I came across this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178441&cm_re=business_storage-_-22-178-441-_-Product

What's the difference between a regular NAS and this one with Windows Server. How exactly does it work? Would it be better to use that instead of something like this?

If you look at the website of Synology or QNAP or Thecus, they break their product lines into different target markets. For instance the "+" line from Synology is targeted at small businesses. There are features that aren't available on the lower end lines. Things like link aggregation. A small business with 20 users will benefit from and have the network infrastructure to support link aggregation. Most home users won't. The hardware and embedded software is tailored to the market. Windows domain integration isn't useful to a person with a single PC. It is required for most small businesses.

I am nowhere near an IT professional. I'm in college and I'm just starting to learn about networking....don't be so quick to assume things. I come here to get help and do not appreciate your negativity. It's people like you that make people that want to learn new things stray away from asking honest questions.

I'm not purchasing hardware. I'm making a hypothetical proposal to a company which requires me to include actual hardware and prices.

You should repost this as such...
You will find a wealth of people here who will help students and the curious out immensely.
We don't like helping people break the law, make money, spend other peoples' money, take advantage of best business practices, etc.

There is a huge difference between network attached storage and a file server.

This is a place to ask questions and that is exactly what I'm doing. There was nothing wrong with my question at all. It's quite obvious that I know there's a difference between the two...that is why I asked what exactly the difference was and what would be better/beneficial for a small business. You accomplished nothing here except for being a condescending, arrogant troll who can't comprehend a simple question. If you're not going to help me, then stop replying. Like you said, there are plenty of people here to help and apparently you're not one of them.
