Hey guys,

Bought a new Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB and can't seem to get it to format. The SSD shows up in the BIOS and I can see it in Disk Management so I know it's connected. The problem arises when I right click the drive and attempt to create a new Simple Volume to make it usable; it just disappears. It completely vanishes from both Disk Management and Device Manager. When I restart the computer the SSD shows right back up.

NOTE: When the SSD disappears the computer makes the sound like when you unplug a USB device (Like unplugging an Iphone).

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Hi,

Please follow the below steps -

1) Replace the SATA cable and try again
2) Make sure that the SATA connector on the board does not contain any debris, or is not damaged
3) When SSD is not properly connected, the system may fail to detect the SSD. Disconnect the cable and reconnect
4) Connect the SSD to a different SATA Port and see if the drive is detected
. Check to see if the SSD is connected to an expansion port. If it is, then connect the SSD to a regular port.
. If the SSD is connected to a regular port, switch to a different port and reboot
5) If the SSD is properly connected but is not shown in the Drive Selection, try the following steps
. Right-click the My Computer icon => Select Manage => Select Storage => Click Disk...

. Make sure that the disk is enabled and set as a Dynamic Disk.
If it is not, change its setting to Dynamic Disk.
6) Connect the SSD to a different computer to check if there is a problem with the SSD itself.

FIXED!

Step 4) Connect the SSD to a different SATA port.

My SSD was originally plugged into port 4 so I switched it to post 2 and was able to detect and format it perfectly.

Just curious but does anyone know why I had to switch ports to get the SSD to work? Does that mean my SATA port 4 is broken??
