So this is my issue,
PC boots works for a minute or so freezes, peripherals go dead, (Once they go dead you can't switch it off using power button) and then cuts out after 20 seconds.
It was working fine until recently but this problem reoccurs every few weeks takes a bit of tinkering, i.e removing everything and putting it back together again. But i'd like to fix it in on a more permeanant Basis.

Often in the morning it requires me to turn my PC on and off once before it boots, I have a gut feeling it may be either Mobo or PSU but not sure.

My set up is.

Z77 Extreme 4m
Radeon HD 7850 oc 2gb
Corsair extreme 2x4gb
I5 2500k
antec Kuhler 650
three case fans
2 bit fenix LED strips
Cooler master 700W

I'm about to upgrade my graphics card to a R9 380 and would liek to resolve this before I start upgrading a machine that has teething problems.

Kind Regards,

Jack

Solution
First, make sure ALL wires/cables are connected properly, this includes monitor data cable also.

Ensure memory and video card seated firmly.

Clear CMOS.

Could try another video card (borrow from friend, neighbour . . if necessary), and/or try the HD7850 in another computer (friend's, neighbour's .. computer if necessary).

If issues no longer occur on your computer with the replacement (test) video card installed, and/or if the HD7850 causes issues in another computer, then the HD7850 may be faulty.

If issues still occur on your computer with the replacement (test) video card installed, and/or the HD7850 runs without issues on another computer, then the fault is elsewhere.

Try the PSU in another computer (friend's, neighbour's . ...

If original PSU doesn't work properly in another computer, and/or replacement (test) PSU works in your computer without any further issues, then the original PSU is faulty.

If original PSU works OK in another computer, and/or still have issues with freezes etc with the replacement (test) PSU installed, then the motherboard appears to be faulty.

Sadly Don't have any spare bits of kit, or friends that are PC builders so swapping bits of kit in and out is sadly a no go.

Appreciate your response.

It's odd how the PC always starts regardless but inevitably locks up after a minute or so, the screen and fans stay on but the peripherals stop working completely. Last night my mouse kept flickering, could the PSU cause different parts of the PC to stop working while others remain active or is this more indicative of a faulty mobo?

The problems could be caused by either a faulty PSU or the motherboard. But if the recommended testing is definitely not an option, then maybe take a gamble and replace the PSU. But if the issues continue after replacing the PSU, then it is likely to be a motherboard fault instead.

Thanks I think that's what I'm going to have to end up doing sadly. Upgrading my GPU today so want to get it resolved but hesitant to start throwing money at it replacing GPU, PSU and Mobo in well fell swoop is quite an unappealing thought! Will take it all apart today and reassemble see if it helps moves things along a little, if the PSU isn't the issue think I'm still able to RMA the Mobo which is an added bonus!

Thanks Again.
