Is my PSU enough to power my system?

My system.
FX6300
Asrock extreme 3 R2.0 970
8 gb evga 1600
1TB
SPEC-01 case
EVGA 430 PSU
R7 250x 2gb DDR3
Cool master T4 cooler
Case has 3 fans 2-140 1-120

I tried to add the r7 250x to the system and it turned on for a split second then turned right back off. I have put in a lowered powered graphics card that is pretty old 9800ti i think, and it starts right up so I was thinking it maybe my power supply is not powerful enough.

What do you all think?

Hi everyone

Solution
I'd try the card again personally , 95w for the 250x is exaggurated - note like 80w peak load in all honesty.

With both CPU & GPU fully stressed I don't think you'd touch 270w total & the cx430 pushes a lot more than that on the 12v rail.

Did you have the 6 pin plugged in ?? You may just not have seated the card quite correctly or something

His whole system uses around 300w of power at full load, its not optimal to have a 430w psu with that but he should be able to power it up without a problem. If he set up everything correctly than he most likley has a dead card

Nah thats not true, at max load it will use more. And if it would use like 400w then 430 wouldnt even be enough.
A little peak and he might crash some of he's hardware. Thats why an overkill PSU always will be better. ;)

The 250x = 95W The Fx6300 = 95w .The following test in the link I provide was done using a HD 5870 which uses 144w at peak significantly higher than the 250x. http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Processors/AMD-FX-8350-and-FX-6300-Processor-Review-Vishera-Breaks-Cover/Power-Overclocking-
5870 for reference https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/Radeon_HD_5870/28.html .

430W is sufficient for that system, Results:
Load Wattage: 307 W
Recommended UPS rating: 600 VA
Recommended PSU Wattage: 357 W

Amperage (combined)

Recommended Power Supply:
EVGA 430 W1 80+, 430W Continuous Power, 3 Year Warranty Power Supply 100-W1-0430-KR

Results tested from here:http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

The problem is not your wattage

Since he says his computer only powers up for a "split second" before shutting down, that sounds like his PC gets nowhere near booting Windows so drivers or even any OS being installed do not matter.

Since his PC boots with an ancient 9800ti which should be using more power than a 250X, either something is not working right with his 250X or the PSU does not like the way the GPU behaves during power-up.

You're incredibly wrong with both heavily overclocked you would still be looking at under 350w peak draw.A psu is at its best efficiency half to 50 to 75% usage. Why arre you recommending a 550W -600W psu, that is just not needed at all.

This, I agree strongly, its not the wattage thats the problem but rather how its being drawn, that psu has sufficient amperage also so,the problem lies elsewhere imo also

apologies for the double post

I still dont agree, i had this problem alot, with alot of systems.
Im not looking to previews or whatever. Im just sharing the experience i had.
Otherwise i would not react. But thanks for mentioning it :)

Can you try the card in a friends pc?I know the 250x is a pcie 3.0 card and your motherboard has pcie 2.0 but they are backwards compatible as far as I know.If at all possible please try the card in another pc.The 9800 is 140 W whereas the 250x is much less at 95 W, I really can't imagine 430W not being enough by any stretch of the imagination.

Assuming that older card you have is a 9800 gtx ,it also has a 6 pin power slot , & as stated above that's a 140w card , if it works your PSU & PCI express power cable are fine.

Was the 250x brand new ?? As said it may be faulty , I don't know how many times you tried it ??
