OK, just a quick question to get some opinions.

Im looking to potentially upgrade my GPU.

My current system is

FX-8350
AMD HD 7950 saphire 3gb boost
600w psu
ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+

I would be looking to be upgrading to a gtx 980ti, my question is will it be worth it?

mainly looking to prepare for fallout 4

Cheers

Solution
If you can afford it, your performance should more than double. Fx 8350 should bottleneck the 980ti. I only recommend getting 980ti for 1440p max settings or beyond. At 1080p, a gtx 970 is more than good enough.

NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB is the minimum requirement and NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB is recommended (http://www.techspot.com/news/62377-fallout-4-system-requirements.html). A 980ti would last you for some time for sure, IF you have that kind of money and are ready for that kind of spend. You could easily upgrade to something like a 970 and do just fine with the game and other future games for the next few years probably. A single 970 would easily be half the cost of a 980ti as well. If you have the money and it won't hurt you then by all means enjoy a top end card, otherwise it's more than you need to play.

I personally regret not buying a card that will last. I know that the 7950 will run the game but I like max settings, I will also be getting a new screen in the near future witch would be 1440p.

Im gonna hang off till black friday and hope for something.

I can probably drop 980ti cash and feel like it would last me in newer games for longer.
