I have a r9 290x and a fx 8350 with a MSI 970 motherboard . With a 600watt thermaltake psu . my question if my system takes about 524watts is that psu enough or should I get a new psu for this system because I was playing csgo yesterday and my PC turned off mid game

Yes you need a new power supply. For all we know that "600W unit" may not even be 600W. Sometimes companies lie about wattage or have a completely exaggerated result because they test their power supplies at extremely low temperatures. As temperatures increase, wattage decreases due to properties of semiconductors losing the ability to pass as much electrical current as temperatures rise. It's called "derating". The particular rails themselves also matter.

Are you sure it wasn't a heating issue?

XFX are good. All of XFXs units are made by Seasonic who is one of the best PSU manufactures in the business.
