Hello,

I'm building new gaming rig and i want to know which cpu is better, there will not be any overclocking, I'm choosing between i7 4790k and i7 6700 non K version, because i don't plan on spending 130€ more for K version which is just 200 or 300mhz faster. The GPU will be GTX 980 TI G1 GAMING and 16gb of ram, not sure yet if ddr3 or ddr4 if i go with skylake. What do you guys think, which one will have more FPS in games? The price is the same with those two, so don't look on the price tag, I just wanna strictly know about performance which one is stronger? Because I couldn't found any benchmarks off those two or answers on internet :/

cheers

4790k at stock is already much better than poor AMD even if it's OC to 5ghz+. and mhz doesnt mean shit anymore. For example, you have i5 3,4ghz and fx 5,0ghz and if you say that fx is better because it has more mhz it's like saying that a car with 200hp runing at 6000 rpm is better or faster than car with 400hp running at 4000rpm :D know what I'm saying?

Those two builds will perform almost identically in games. (Newer 6700 architecture offset by lower base clock frequency). I would go for the skylake build as it's more future proof (Always shoot for the latest tech available).

Userbenchmark PC Build Comparison
Baseline Bench: Desk 91%, Game 101%, Work 64%
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K $325
GPU: Nvidia GTX 980 Ti $660
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB $85
Total: $1,070

Alternative Bench: Desk 90%, Game 101%, Work 62%
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 $330
GPU: Nvidia GTX 980 Ti $660
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB $85
Total: $1,075

lol it got cheaper in these days, it's only 70€+ difference in price..but still not worth it, because u don't get shit with overclocking, i had my 4790K with watercooling(H100i) OC'd to 4,7 and 4,8ghz and I couldn't see any difference..in benchmarks like 3D mark firestrike yes in games no..but when I OC'd my GPU there was couple of frames more and that's it, I was dissapointed really I expected more..Overclocking is just for a hobby.

for $37 the K version is a no brainer. Even if you don't overclock it's 600 MHz (15% faster). Sure games might be no faster (depending on your GPU) but anything CPU dependant will 15% faster. If you are only interested in gaming performance then consider the 6600 which is over $100 cheaper than the 6700 for basically the same gaming performance:
