USB 3.0 not always working after restart

I'm having problems with the USB 3.0 ports not working on my MSI 970A-G43 mobo. To fix the problem, I've tried updating the mobo BIOS using MSI Live Update 6, and I've also installed the latest 64-bit Windows 10 chipset/USB drivers from AMD (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows). This only became an issue after installing a USB 3.0 wireless network adapter (Rosewill RNX-AC1200UB). This is the first device I've used that takes advantage of USB 3.0, so it makes sense that I wouldn't have any issues until now. I can confirm that these ports don't work at all sometimes, since I can plug a USB 2.0 flash drive in and nothing happens.

I can work around the issue by:
1) Starting the computer and entering BIOS.
2) Disabling and re-enabling the "onboard usb 3.0 controller" setting.
3) Starting the computer in Windows.

While it works, I really, really hate doing it. And I miss the way my computer would start flawlessly.

My Device Manager shows something called "Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)". I believe it showed the same driver before downloading the newer ones from AMD. Could it just be that it's automatically installing the wrong drivers after updating them?

I have the "OC Genie" feature activated on my mobo. I think I've read that other people could solve this issue by turning it off, but I would rather use my work around than turn it off. Maybe there's an overclock setting that's causing my USB 3.0 to not work?

Thanks for your help. I'm looking forward to reading your responses.

Edit: Disregard the following information. I was almost positive I had the problem solved, since I had shut down and restarted several times without a problem. However, when I returned home from work today and started my PC, the USB 3.0 did not work. Now I tried disabling OC Genie 2 and manually overclocking the to the same settings in "standard" mode. I'll test it a few days to see if there's any change. Here is what I had posted yesterday:

Ok I think I got it. I've been able to restart my computer and also turn it off and back on again several times without an issue. Here's what I did:

1) Right click the Windows icon on the bottom left of the screen and click "Power Options" from the pop-up menu.
2) Click on the "change plan settings" link next to the "Balanced (recommended)" plan.
3) Click on "Change advanced power settings"
4) Under "PCI Express>Link State Power Management" changed the setting to "Off"
5) Restart the PC and it should work

I first tried changing the USB power savings option and didn't get different results. Then I remembered after checking the drivers under the Device Manager that it said it was on "PCI Bus 2", so I thought I'd try changing the PCI Express settings. Fortunately it worked.

Hi,

I know this post is old, but i want to say thank you! We have the same MOBO, and we both need the usb 3.0 to connect the wifi adapter. Thanks a lot! <3

Hello. Thanks for your anser and your follow up as well. I have an ASUS eeeBox EB 1503 and the front USB 3.0 ports would sometime work, sometimes not. I'll try your suggestion and see if it helps us out as well. The only difference is that our USB 3.0 run on a n ASMedia chipset and it's driver is using the default driver for this chipset in windows 10. I believe the version 0.96. Thanks again.
