Hi guys, I am working on an old build as I don't have budget to get a new rig.

My Current Config
Intel 946GZIS
Pentium 4 3.06ghz
2GB Transcend Ram 667 mhz
Generic 450Watt SMPS

I got a Cooler Master 600 Watt PSU and a Zotac 650TI 2GB GDDR5 Amp Edition from a relative.

I am looking to swap my P4 with an old E6700/E6600 (65nm) or a Q6600 (65nm) and putting an additional 2GB ram for a total of around $40. Processor cost is E6700 - $10 and Q6600 - $20

Quick Questions
1. Is it worth spending $40 for such an old build.
2. What performance can I expect from it for recent games like Batman Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X, GTA V and upcoming Tomb Raider. Consider playing any game at 720p.
3. CPU Bottlenecking % ?
4. The said Gfx is PCIE 3.0, my board is PCIE 1.0, Will the card lose much of its potential?

And the other important thing ---
The intel site doesn't mention that CPU in compatibility list. The latest BIOS update Release Notes says Processor Compatibility Increased but don't provide the list of new updated processors.
I have tried a E5300 (45nm) on this board which is not listed in compatibility chart. The processor seems to work fine, but the Windows Experience Index rating it less than my old P4 on this board, how ever it gives a 6, a much better rating on a G31. Also, I checked CPU-Z and the Core Multipliers are x6 only instead of x13 as on a G31. So, May be, my board will support this or any LGA775 Processor but wont let them run at full speed.
So, Will a Q6600 run at full speed on this board?

For a Q6600 for $20 that is a decent upgrade. For the games you want, you will be able to play at 720p, maybe on low, low-medium.
Don't upgrade to the dual core CPU.

If the CPU is not listed in compatability list it's a guess if it will work or not. Do a BIOS update and check it. Don't run the WEI, run a gaming benchmark like PCMark or a full benchmark like PassMark if you want to compare performance.
