Hey guys I've got a 1 TB passport ultra external hard drive that I keep some info and all my games on. I dropped it on a wood floor in my house hallway and when I connected it my computer wouldn't recognize it. Now only "This PC" for some reason won't recognize it, by that I mean that I can't access it from the program "This PC" (And neither will other computers) but when I click down in the bottom left and look at the "Safety remove hardware and media" and go to device manager both of those see it. I tried uninstalling the hard drives drivers and re-connecting it, But to no avail. So my question is what can I do to try and fix it and if there is nothing what programs would be good programs for the recovery of the data on it? (Preferably free programs)

Thanks a lot.

Hi there Enabskrad,

That is unpleasant. :(
Unfortunately, most probably your HDD has sustained some physical damage. If this is the case, software tools will not help.
In case the data stored on the drive is crucial, you will need to contact a data recovery company. You can check WD's Data Recovery Partners out: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=CFiqeP

Apart from all that, you can go to Disk Management and see how is the drive recognized over there. It is possible that your system recognizes only the enclosure(that's why you can eject it and is recognized by Device Manager).

You can try accessing it with some data recovery tool: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
