Hey all,

Ive had this PC since i was 19(now 25) just finished uni and have my job interview tomorrow,(fingers crossed) my budget that was allocated for school can now be spent on other things. I think its time to move away from LGA1366. I have always been upgrading little bits n bobs on my PC apart from the Mobo and CPU. I am currently running:

i7 920 @4ghz
1366 gigabyte mobo
12gb ram
2x 980 GTX @ 5760 x 1080 (yes i get very good fps)
couple of 256 SSDs and a few 2TBs

This is my workstation and gaming pc
3D Studio Max
Z Brush
Photoshop
Unreal 4 / Cryengine
BF4 / GTA 5 / ArmA 3 / other AAA game

I bought a LGA2011 mobo a few years back, because I got a great deal and though back then I would do start on a new platform and do what I am doing now, piece it bit by bit. Unfortunately that was never the case and as more responsibilities came my way, I essentially used the SATA cables that came with the new mobo to attach more SSDs to my existing machine.

My question is, should I buy a 4930k fit it to the NewOld motherboard i have lying around, buy new RAM and waterblock plate, and call it a day? Or should I hold on for a little longer until the new socket comes out or opt for a 2011-3? Maybe even a Z series board? I don't really have my knowledge on these boards or cpus, as i havent really had the time to research it all in the detail i would like.

Thanks in advance

IVY-E is still a powerhouse of a platform on LGA 2011 if you have a motherboard already upgrading to 2011v3 isn't worth it. 4930k will work fine with it all, Thats just my two cents. Its not like the 920 is bad you would be suprised how many people are rocking Q6600's.

Hmm honestly I would just stick with the 920 for a while longer it is still a very capable cpu, is it bottlenecking your 980s or something? Why do you want to upgrade? The 4930k is a okay choice it wont perform as well as say the haswell or skylake i5s and i7s in gaming but for other tasks its a monster, however I took a quick glance and the 4930k is still going for upwards of 500 dollars that is way too much in my opinion I would just get a z97 or z170 mobo with an unlocked i5 or i7 if you plan to overclock that would be less money and perform better in gaming. Or even x99 with a 5820k if you really need that kind of power for your other tasks but I think an i7 would do just fine if your current i7 920 suits your needs.
