I have this graphics card laying around, but it's telling me its made for MAC computers. Before I spend money on a new PSU to run it, I want to know if this will work on a regular HP Pavilion p7-1220 PC. I've read some things on the internet, but never got a definitive answer to the question.

The only way to get a definitive answer is to try it. My guess is no. Macs use a different method of booting GPUs than PCs. They can use most PC hardware because their EFI is relatively backwards compatible, but the reverse is not necessarily true. Of course, the GPU manufacturer could have cooked any firmware in.

Perhaps a better option would be to sell the 5870. The mac version is still worth quite a bit relative to the regular version. With the money you make, you could buy a more powerful/less power hungry GPU.
