Hello everyone!

I am having a hard time choosing a proper PSU for my planned build.

Intel i5 4590
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4Gb
16 gigs of Corsair Vengeance RAM

I will be using a Cryorig H7 to cool the CPU (I know its not a must-have with a non-oc cpu, but i like my system cool and quiet, also i want it to last at least 5 years)
Also, i am planning to use three 120mm fans for good airflow in the Corsair spec 01 case

My cpu is not overclockable, but i am planning to OC the GTX 970 as much as i can!

Here comes the tricky part: i used many different psu calculators to determine how much power ill need. The results always showed me that the load wattage of a system like this should be around 380-400 watts. Now i know i should add some headroom to that, and finally i decided that a decent 550W psu would be enough for me.
Then i read, that for a safe headroom, a gigabyte gtx 970 gaming should have around 600 watts.(remember that i will oc it as hard as i can)

So my final question is, will a decent 550w psu (Like the XFX Proseries 550w) be good for my build? I read somewhere that psus are most efficient at around 45-50% of their max wattage, what does that mean?
My budget for the psu is around 60-70 bucks, but i am willing to spend around 100 if it is neccessary.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes. A good PSU like the 550W XFX will run that system. I ran a 4590 and a GTX970, although not overclocked, on a really good 450W PSU.

For a 550W PSU, I would want the nominal power use of the system to be no more than 70% of that (a little less than 400W) for best efficiency and headroom. Even overclocked, your system will easily use less than 400W under normal full use. Brief, high GPU demand spikes will be handled, as they are supposed to, by your PSU's main capacitors. That's why we recommend high-performance PSUs for gaming builds.

A good 550w PSU is easily enough to run the system and overclock the gpu. Here'a a link with more info on PSU efficiency.
