Hi all,

I've ordered some parts for a new rig online and all have been shipped to me but my powersupply. I had an old Antec 500w that I am using in the meantime. The issue occurs when I am playing a game that is even slightly demanding my fps will drop from 60+ fps to 30-40 fps. Could the power supply cause this issue? My PC is not running hot. The new PSU should arrive within a week.

Specs:

Intel i5 4690k 3.5/3.9 (w/ 212 evo heatsink)
Radeon 6870
Asus z87 PRO atx
2x8 gb RAM hyperx fury
(old antec 500w)

Solution
I have had this issue before, it could very well be that one of your fans is not functioning correctly. In the past I have had random lag spikes that would last for anywhere for about 3- 25 seconds. I fixed this issue by simply buying a new fan to replace the dysfunctional one. You should open your computer, (While its off) turn it on and run your game then watch the fans! Dont stick your hand in there while its on though, that is dangerous to do.
