Battery powered mini-pc needed for field diagnostic tool.

So, I'm looking for a mini-pc with 256-512GB SSD, WiFi, and a GSM cellular modem which can run off of a LiON battery pack which will be mounted inside a larger case with a diagnostic tool connected to it via USB, as well as a SmartCard reader for user verification and access. I'm thinking that a Core i3 running Windows is what I'll need processor wise, but if I'm lucky the diagnostic software will run fine off of a Bay Trail processor instead for much longer battery life.

I'll be building an LCD display into the lid of the Pelican case, as well as a keyboard on an insert tray which will also contain the SmartCard reader slot, as well as a small device which material to be diagnosed is placed inside. All of this will be locked down, as there are to be no user serviceable parts or access to this device. This will be a single purpose machine, running only the one diagnostic application. I'm wanting to see 2-6 hours of use while operating off battery power (the longer the better), as well as the option of running off either AC or a vehicle 12v DC plug.

Yes, I could theoretically use a small laptop, but there are both cost, heat, security, and access issues which make a laptop the last thing I really want to use. The diagnostic tool will have its own LiON battery pack, and ideally I'd like to have a single AC d-shaped grounded power plug on the back of the Pelican case which will charge both units, along with 1 or 2 filtered fans for heat dissipation.

Any suggestions on what mini-pc I should be looking at? Is such a beast made? If so, by whom?

I've seen a few things on Alibaba, but since the devices are all in China, and even though they talk about the device being "battery powered", the only thing "battery powered" about them that I can see is that they have a DC input, and I'm not sure what that actually gets me in terms of actually being able to run these things via a largish LiON battery pack.

Any help, suggestions, links, etc would be GREATLY appreciated!

Which was my first thought, actually. However so many threads about that very subject end in people saying that it can't be done.

Someone please inform me otherwise!

I don't have one so I can't confirm. There are video's on youtube that show NUC units running on DC. One for an off-grid solar situation, another using a DC-to-DC converter and running off a 6VDC battery. There are definitely people doing it. Longevity? Don't know.
