New build from scratch - Skylake (and overclocking) future proofing worth it?

I've been working on a new build (primarily for gaming, possibly video editing) and I've been reading that while it isn't really worth upgrading at this point if you already have a Haswell system, it would be worth going to the new platform if you're doing a fresh build.

The research I already did for my i5-4460 build lead me to the conclusion that going to an i5-4690k would only give me marginal gains in a gaming setting and may not be worth the price.

After reading about Skylake I compared prices and found that going to an i5-6500 would be roughly the $80 increase as the i5-4690k. Furthermore, going to an i5-6600k would be an additional $100. (rough numbers dependent on sales/promos)

I am looking to have this computer last for a solid 6+ years (upgrading graphics cards as needed). Would jumping to Skylake now give me more longevity or would either system be falling behind after that many years anyway?

Skylake doesnt game as well as Haswell so your upgrade isnt worth doing to begin with.
As I understand it, socket 1151 is going away with Intel's next chip, so again your proposed 'upgrade' is already dead-ended.
IMO, bank the money for your next build; you are good for another 3-4yrs with what you already have.
