Does the brand matter for a DisplayPort cable?

I have zero experience with DisplayPorts, but I have the BenQ XL2430T which supports 144HZ. Only way to achieve that is with a displayport cable.

I was curious, does it matter the brand?

For example, I am looking at unbranded stuff on eBay such as link 1 and link 2

Or should I go for the ones on Amazon and NewEgg that are $6.99+?

It's not a big price difference, but if they're all the same quality then I would rather spend a dollar or two less.

Anyone with experience can provide some insight? Because if it does matter then please let me know what I should be looking for when purchasing a cable.

Just like any type of connector, if you go too cheap they will not work well. This is true for HDMI, USB, DP, and much more.

If you want to be super careful, get the more expensive one but 98% of all cheap cables do 100% of what the expensive ones do.

I believe this to be true of the cables you have linked from ebay as well. They seem well insulated and the ends look well built. I think they will serve you well.

FYI, brand does not matter, just quality. Most every brand buys a product from china and puts a stamp on it. For the most part they are all the same.

The actual wire inside is all the same. Wire is wire. The signal is the same. Digital is digital.

Where you would probably see a difference is cable construction. Are the ends flimsier? If you only plug it in once, probably won't make a difference. But if you do it a couple of times...who knows...the flimsier one might break easier.

Only way to tell is to buy it. And if ebay, much harder to send back and get a refund.

I'd go with the Amazon. It's only a couple of $$. Or maybe Monoprice.com.

Thanks. I haven't opened my monitor box yet, but I just read that it comes with a DVI DL cable. So will their included cable allow me to do 144hz? My monitor is BenQ XL2430T

As I have geforce gtx 980 and that supports DVI.

I'm only used to HDMI and the old school red/white cords lol. I'm new to DVI and displayports

Oh awesome! That saves me $4 then lol. GTX 980 has one dual-link DVI connector. So I'm guessing I can just plug in the included DVI to it.

It was just a generalization. Amazon cables are great and cheap. Go into Best Buy and they charge $30 for an HDMI cable (not joking).

Cut a few different cables apart and you will likely find that there are many arrangements of conductor sizes, insulation thickness, shielding foils and braids, etc. out there and when you are dealing with GHz+ signals, all of these can make a dramatic difference in signal integrity which has a direct effect on how tolerant the end-to-end connection will be to disturbances of various sorts.
