Just recently checked requirements for fallout 4 (the hype is real) just wondering if i can run on max settings at 1920x1080. Do I really need an i7? According to EA i didnt meet the recomended requirements for battlefront 3- ended up being able to run it with ultra everything at 90 fps and barely pushing my system. Current specs here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qXzcpg. Ima have a second gtx 970 and will be overclocking both cpu and gpu around time of release. Thanks for the help!

Battlefront is a different game on a different game engine. Fallout 4 can't really be compared.

As for needing an i7 for max, I have found an i5 does just as fine since most games still only utilize up to a quad core. Your CPU is about equal to most stock clocked i5 CPUs so I don't think you need a massive CPU upgrade just yet.

Do nothing play the game then decide the min specks released even make no since.

· Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent

· 8 GB RAM

· 30 GB free HDD space

· NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

The i5 spanks the P4 and the 7870 spanks the 550ti so that's information is not even close.
The last game that recommended a i7 was watch dogs and guess what it runs just the same on a quick i3.

I highly doubt that you really will need an i7... :)

An i5 and i7 performs nearly the same when gaming if I am not mistaken. Games that rely on the CPU the most would benefit from an i7 more, but an i5 wouldn't be that far. :)
