I recently acquired a little computer that I'm trying to set up as a media centre. I tried a USB wireless adapter, but that burned out really quickly, so I ordered a TP-Link WN881ND wireless card.

After installing, I got a POST error message that suggested there was a video card error. It seemed that it was trying to use the wireless card as a video card, so I changed the settings in the BIOS to force the use of the integrated graphics card instead.

That solved the problem, but now it's like the PCI-E slot doesn't exist at all. No sign of it in device manager, not even under other devices. CPU-Z doesn't mention anything unusual about it. I tested the card in another PC, and it works fine. All I know about the board is that it was made by Lenovo.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Someone on another site had this to say: On all Core 2 and older system you cannot use the video PCIe 16x slot with any device other than a video card. This is because the slot cannot be used together with integrated graphics (because it uses the same pins on the chipset as the video output). On more modern system sometimes the BIOS is specifically programmed to disallow anything other than video cards in the 16x slot.

I'm assuming that was the problem. Going to submit to a USB adapter again.

I don't think you read the problem. It has nothing to do with using a separate GPU.
