2-way evga gtx 980 ti or 2-way gigabyte gtx 980 ti g1 gaming

What cards in sli will give better performance? I have read some problems with running 2 gigabyte gtx 980 ti g1 cards but im not sure if it would be a rare problem or not. What would be the safer option and what works better in sli?

980 ti's will work just as good as any other cards in sli for the most part. Cant imagine why you would need 980 ti's in sli unless you use a 4k monitor or a 144hz 1440p monitor. SLI in general has issues with a lot of games mostly because developers dont take the time to properly optimize their games for sli a lot of games have stuttering issues rampant fps drops and so on in sli. Support for SLI seems to be improving with newer games however.

Its hard to tell, but I personally recommend the gigabyte cards as I've used them before.

Any vendors cards will be fine in sli as long as they are touching each other taking all airflow away from one of the the cards. All the reputable brands are good EVGA, Gigabyte, Zotac, ASUS, XFX, MSI, and so on. I personally prefer MSI cards for nvidia 900 series cards.

I thought it was better they stay apart so they dont heat up as much? I am planning to match 2 980tis on the asus sabertooth x99 motherboard but the pcie slots for the graphics cards are far apart, do you recommend a better motherboard, trying to stick to a black/green or dark theme

It was kind of pointless for me to mention, you dont have to worry about that. But sometimes the power supply or motherboard you use can cause more or less coil whine from your gpu, for example I have heard people say they have bad coil whine from their gpu but when they replaced their power supply it went away, something about the way some power supply's deliver power can cause more or less coil whine.

any air cooled 980ti in sli will be thermally bottlenecked which will limit its overclock. that said, just get whatever is cheapest from evga, msi, gigabyte or asus. the gigabyte is a nice card but it is exceptionally long compared to the evga card.
