Here is a picture of what they're saying about their software: http://i.imgur.com/a23mPnr.jpg

IU offers Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 to their students, and what I believe they are saying is you can only upgrade if you currently have windows installed on your computer.

I planned on installing it on my SSD if that helps as well. Both my HDD and my SSD will be blank.

Can someone help me with my predicament?

Then you can't. Says right there, can't install on a blank HD and you want to install on a blank HD. Can't do it. Pretty clear to me.

Thank you for you help, it is much appreciated.

I think I'm getting too excited that my school is offering Windows for free.

Now, here is a suggestion so hear me out. I currently have a copy of Windows 7 Professional disc, but it is being used on my PC now. If I purchase a product key for Windows 7 and use the copy I have to install from scratch, THEN use my school's software to upgrade once Windows 7 is installed, would that even work?

If you're considering that route, just buy Windows 10 to start with.

Just buy Windows 10 and install it from the start.
Your schools offering of 'free Windows' has nothing to do with a new PC with no original OS.
