Hi,
Everything was working perfectly until I decided to upgrade my win7 ultimate to SP1 and I installed all the updates except the ones related to ms office and security ones...

Now, once I restarted my system after the updates my system was super fast and worked flawlessly.

I had to go to school now, so I shut it down. After coming back when I booted it up, it started hanging and one of my gadgets(GPU stats) wasn't displaying. I tried opening gadets by right clicking but despite on clicking nothing happened!!

I tried opening a program I have "remotr' from the start menu but nothing happened, the same happened when I tried opening 'disk -defragmentator'.

But other programs including the Google chrome shortcut on the desktop, disk cleanup, winrar, etc were working fine.

I thought it was due to avast so I repaired it but still nothing has been resolved, one more thing, if I keep on clicking on the programs which aren't working like remotr, etc from the start menu. Then the menu hangs and then I can't even type anything in the search box, can't even click on shutdown restart... It just hangs..

Please help
Thanks in advance
Harry

Sometimes problems occur after windows updates or upgrades.
If all else fails, you will be able to restore your system using a system restore point that was automatically created before updating.
Let's try these steps first:
1- download free CCleaner
2- install and run it, then analyze and run cleaner (Note: uncheck firefox, IE, google chrome and other apps if you dont want their history and cookies to be removed)
3- After it's cleaned, click on "registry" on the right > scan for issues > fix issues (and keep the backup anywhere).
4- restart windows and try the programs again.
.
If that doesn't work, then open start menu > type "cmd" (without quotes) > right click and run-as-admin > type in it "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) then press enter > wait for the scan to finish then tell me what it says.
.
Also try uninstalling the program that didn't work (remotr) > reboot > re-install the latest version of it from the official website.

Hi buddy,
Thanks for the reply, but I found the solution already as I couldn't just stand by and do nothing :p

Ok so here's what I did, I searched the net for problems similar to mine. And I fond lots of kind-of-similar problems and the thing that I had incommon with all those problems was Avast antivirus.

As I couldn't open control panel on my windows, I booted the PC in safe mode with networking(it was working excellently) and opened control panel and then I was heading towards uninstall.

Then when I was about the click uninstall I saw avast offered an 'update' button there too. So I clicked it and avast updated In a few seconds. And asked for a reboot, I thought I should give atleast one more chance to avast.

So I rebooted and my computer booted into normal windows and BAM ! It was working better than normal and super excellent speed :)

Hope this help people and once again buddy thanks for trying to help, I really appreciate it :)
