you will want 1 980ti for 1440p gameing to push 60-100 fps if your going to be doing work on the side monitors and not gameing in surround 1 980ti will do you fine
I have changed my mind a bit, what if i just used 1 1440 for gaming and 2 1080 on the side or 2 1440 on the sides, what graphics cards would i need, 3 980 ti's?
I would not use different res monitors if your intention is multiscreen gaming. its the beginning of a plethorae of problems and glitches that will cause you to pull your hair out until you have none.
I wouldn't even recommend mixing two monitors of the same exact model from two different factory batches. At least for me the color inconsistency drives me nuts and its very hard next to impossible to have perfect calibration between two monitors of different models. I submit though that I am excessively picky when it comes to color.

I am exactly like that, but i have changed my mind, again, how about 3x1440p and only the middle one for games
In my opinion, its the hands down best monitor. It is fast, not just pretty. Lots of 4k monitors seem great but slow as hell. This one is the total package.

I want 3 monitors so i can multitask, i dont want one monitor and having to switch out of whatever im doing to do other things, i know it will bother me way too much
Just grab a good gaming 1440p monitor and a 980ti. Then, yeah, add some cheaper 1440p monitors on the side. As you said, game on the middle one and you'll be good to go.
