media server using 5-bay Orinco USB3 drive enclosure?

I have an Orinco 3559SUSJ3-5V (5-bay drive enclosure w/ ESATA and USB3) and I need the computer to use it as a media server. It will be on 24/7. It appears the key to most all of the drive enclosures working reliably is to use USB3 rather than ESATA and that is the direction I plan on going

Is there a nice cheap low power stand-a-lone solution, e.g., a Zotac Zbox, or Liva or Brix that you folks would recommend......or something else?

The computers on my household network are all running Win7 Ultimate x64 until we change them all over in a couple of months to Win10.

Thanks for your advice,

Larry

So you are looking for a small PC to be as the Media server for the USB Enclosure is what you are saying? Then something like a Zotac Zbox would be perfect. Doesn't have to be a fast CPU or lots of ram is it isnt going to be used as a PC but just as a Windows host for the hard drives.

The only thing i would make sure is that it has a Gigabit LAN port on it and USB 3.0. I have a custom build Media server. it is a 1.8Ghz dual core celeron with 4GB of ram and i have a RAID card for my storage. I have a 240GB SSD as the OS drive and i use to use it as my daily PC since my desktop heats up my room faster than a heater and for daily task, thanks to the SSD, i can't even see a difference in normal day task. It doesn't have to have a SSD if...

Solution
I happen to be running a Cineraid 4-bay, and used it for a while on USB3, which seems like the easiest solution, but the problem was, under my W7, I noticed USB3 get disconnected and re-mount itself on occasions, that causes my Windows Media Center clients to disconnect from the drives. I moved it to eSata and this problem disappeared. YMMV.

Mobos' eSata can't deal with JBOD, you have to use a PCIe eSata board for JBOD.

All depends on the SATA chipset for the JBOD. Ones that are on the low end yea they can't do JBOD because they don't have a built in port multiplier. The high end ones usually do.

That is one other thing to look at if you decided to go with eSATA is if you have it setup as a JBOD then you have to make sure the eSATA support Port Multiplier. If you have a RAID setup on it then nothing to worry about.

Also on your USB issue you might want to look into the advanced power options and turn off the ability for it to turn off USB after so long. My clients and even I have had that issue before and was fixed with that.
