Hello

I have an idea of running an external 2 tb Verbatim hhh with instead of a external power adpter. Would it be possible to run it with two usb ports , one used for data and power and the second for only power. Would that even be possible ? Just a thought I had becouse I am tired of plugging the ex power adapter .

Thanks :D

I agree with USAFRet. The external HDD units that do work with laptops and depend on a cable with TWO USB2 plugs on its end to get enough power are designed for that purpose with low-speed, low-power drive units inside. And still, it takes 2 power connections. There are no 3½" desktop-type HDD units that can run on power that low. Numerically: a typical 3½" HDD consumes up to 10 watts power. A USB2 port can supply 5 VDC up to 0.5 amps, so two such connections can supply up to 5 Watts, but nowhere close to 10.

A 3.5" HDD? No. The USB port does not supply enough power to run that.
Some, but not all, 2.5" drives can run off USB power.
