Hey everyone,

I'm starting my build and had a few questions about how to orient my fans in my Define R5.

The R5 which comes with two 140mm Fractal Design case fans. newegg link

I also bought two 140mm Fractal Design high flow fans. newegg link

My plan using 4 fans:

1 high flow fan @ front intake

1 case fan @ front intake

1 case fan @ bottom intake

1 high flow fan @ rear exhaust

The top is staying closed. I have an air cooler for my CPU, plus one optical and one HDD. Light overclocking.

Thoughts? Will I get enough exhaust with 3 intakes/too much positive pressure (that's why I plan on one of the high flow fans as the exhaust)? Is four fans overkill (wouldn't be running at full speed, I presume)?

Thanks for the help!

Solution
That's as good as an other combination.
Front, side, bottom: intake. Top, rear: exhaust... is the normal direction of air flow. So you have the correct locations.
Sometimes one can over-think this whole fan business. Most of the heat buildup will vent naturally out the top vents anyway. Thermal dynamics. Warm air rises. But good fans will help move the air along.
