Hi, I'll try to make this short.

I5 3.20 Ghz, 20 GB RAM Memory, Windows 7

My previous graphics card: Radeon HD 4670
PSU = 500 WATTS

I bought a Nvidia GTX 960 graphics card (Generic)
And a new PSU, a used one = 650 WATTS (Generic, maybe this matters)

Ok, so yesterday I installed the GTX and replaced the 500W PSU for the 650W one, the GTX was working.

Today, I wanted to play DOTA 2 (Which I had previously played during the day, and the PC turned off.

I turned it on again, did some stuff and again I tried to play, it turned off again.

Tried to turn it on, AND I COULD SMELL THE PSU GOT FRIED.

So I ended up switching back to my Radeon 4670 and my 500W PSU (That's what I'm using right now)

I couldn't notice nothing bad in the motherboard, I'm using it right now.

Do you think that my GTX survived?, I THINK SO, but I can't really test it right now since I need to get a new PSU again, a real one.

What do you think?, what are the odds?

PD I tried a watt calculator program that I found online, I was supposedily be ok with at least 430 Watts, but that's another topic.

So what do you think?, Can the GTX die if the MOBO is alive?

Thanks

It's likely and unlikely that your GTX 960 died. Have you tried your GTX 960 on your 500W PSU? That should work just fine! Also, buying a generic power supply may sound like a deal but isn't worth it. I know from experience hahaha. If you're buying a new PSU I'd suggest a Cooler Master V series PSU. Other than that, try your GTX 960 with the 500W PSU and you should be good to go! Write back your results/conflicts.
