This is my part list.

Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Seagate 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card
Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

Is everything compatible? Are there better options for certain components that are cheaper than those listed. Must be cheaper I
'm already over budget.

The build is excellent; a Z97 motherboard would be required to overclock a K CPU and both cost more than the selected components. The only way to decrease the cost is to buy a less expensive CPU like the i5-4460.

yeah. i already mentioned the case and a psu swap to save a few bucks. but stuff like the dvd is unique in that it's not necessary and can be added later on, whereas you can't really add more processor to a 4460 without doing an outright swap which is never cost-effective. ditto for a mobo.

opinions differ, though. i'd spend money where it counts and cheap out on everything else and flat out skip stuff that doesn't get used regularly, no matter how cheap it is. it's a mindset.

That's correct. Furthermore I have absolutely NO experience over clocking. (This is my first build, I plan to build a cheaper maching as a family desktop and "practice" hardware manipulation on those.)

My thoughts exactly. I also heard some drivers are MUCH easier to instal with one.

which OS are you installing? the only drivers that you really need to worry about are the network drivers. oh, and maybe 10 years ago it was easier to install drivers via CD/DVD since USB support wasn't native in the OS, so you had to use the legacy stuff (CD) to install a USB driver before you could install drivers from a USB stick!

in this modern era, a DVD is a legacy device that one should only buy if one absolutely NEEDS it.

You are right about that. However it seems like a nice thing to have. I can make cds and dvds and give them to less technically sound family members. Also I (my family) have like 1000 dvds. I plan on buying the optical drive with mail in rebates I've received so it's not necessarily effecting my budget. As far as the more expensive random components, I'm certainly not paying full price, or I am getting something else out of it.I am going to use this build for my senior project in a month or so, so I opted for a highly rated case that's flashy and unique but not over the edge and I'm only paying like 60 dollars for a highly rated gold rated modular power supply. However I really do appreciate the concern.

I had set the budget at 900$ and Ill be paying 930 for these parts. So just 30 dollars.
But every part either comes with a mail in rebate of at least 10 dollars (altogether like 55 dollars back (Ill be getting a keyboard and mouse with this)) or a free game (with the gtx im getting, I can choose between assasin creed syndicate or rainbow six siege (which should I get?)) and with the sshd I'm getting assassin's creed rogue or if there is no rebate or anything then there is a GREAT sale on the item.

This is a great build, I would consider switching to a 1 TB HD and taking out the dvd drive. This would give you some extra money to get yourself a MB to overclock a 4690k. Even if you have no experience with overclocking, the chip is very easy to work with and there are loads of tutorials to walk you through it. Personally, I think it is worth the extra performance. As far as a new MB goes, this http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Motherboards-Z97-PC-MATE/dp/B00K23BW70/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1445219650&sr=1-8&keywords=lga+1150+motherboards+z97 is a great option. It is more expensive, but you will need to upgrade the one you have eventually and I think you will regret not being able to OC later down the line. Think about it, you are paying virtually the same price as a 4690k, but giving up the ability to squeeze significantly more performance out of it. It will be so much easier and cheaper to get another HD and Dvd drive later on if you need it than to upgrade your MB and CPU. Regardless, you have a solid build and I hope you enjoy putting it together!
