Hi there,

I have an old Maxtor OneTouch hard drive that I have been using fine for years. I've decided it's time to replace it so of course, today it died.
When I plug it in, the little green light on the adaptor lights up fine. As soon as I plug it into the hard drive, the light dims and blinks on and off. The hard drive does nothing.
Does anyone know what this means? Do you think I could recover the data from the hard drive with a Universal Drive Adapter?
Thanks!

Hi there Melanie84,

Have you tried something simple as just attaching the drive with a different USB cable? In case you haven't, you can try that.
If the issue persists, there are more or less two options:
- There is something wrong with the enclosure. In that case, you may be able to recover the data with an adapter. Just keep in mind that this i may not work in case the device: has some hardware encryption, has propitiatory connector.
- There is something wrong with the HDD. In that case, you can try using some data recovery company. If this does not work, you will need to contact a data recovery company.

Cheers,
