Greetings,

I'm going to build my first ever pc. The good news is that I finally have a budget large enough to build something meaningful. The bad news is that I really don't know about a few parts. All suggestions are welcome.

Approximate Purchase Date: Oct - Nov 2015

Budget Range: The machine itself <2000€, preferably around 1700-1800€; the machine + monitor + keyboard + some speakers around 2500€ max.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, some video editing every once in a while

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade: I don't have anything to begin with so I'm starting from scratch.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Anything within the EU. I don't feel like paying import taxes. mindfactory.de, amazon.de, caseking.de for example

Location: Hämeenlinna, Finland

Parts Preferences: I'd like to stick to Intel processors and Nvidia GPUs but other suggestions are also welcome

Overclocking: Perhaps, but nothing too ambitious

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1440p

Additional Comments: A quiet case would be good, and preferably it would be quite understated but would still have one or two interesting touches. Also, I'd be great if the color scheme of the case plus the components somehow matched but that's not too important. The monitor wouldn't have to be particularly FPS oriented; I mainly play RPGs, things like the Total War -series and perhaps a racing simulator or two. Being able to pretty much max out Witcher 3 would be brilliant since I'm a huge Sapkowski fan.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: It's time leave laptop gaming with all it's limitations behind.

If it's not a huge bother, I'll link to the current in progress -build in PcPartPicker.

Now, some explanations:

As you can see the current build only includes the machine itself. One thing I'd like to know is if I should spend a little extra on Skylake. I'd really like to have the 980 Ti but I'm not sure about which manufacturer would be good. Preferably no Gigabyte components since I've had enough of their customer service when I had issues with my laptop - the nearest service stations are in Germany and the UK and I'm not going to pay around 200€ for the transportation to get an item still under warranty serviced.
Regarding the other devices. I'm not a huge fan of mechanical keyboards, and the sound annoys my wife who often has to bring her work home. The monitor isn't going to be used to watch movies since we have a large TV in the same room, but I can't use the TV for gaming since the orientation of the room would not work well - the most I could do with the machine plus the TV plus a long HDMI cable would be to play something that works with wireless controllers.
I will most likely get some help building the system from a proficient friend so no worries about that. What I'd like you all to suggest are ways to cut the current cost of the in progress -build a bit without reducing it's performance significantly so that I could get a decent monitor and the rest of the stuff while staying within the overall budget.

Thank you for your time and suggestions! Paljon kiitoksia!

Yeah, Skylake should be your path for this kind of budget. I basically took your build, made it black and white (gorgeous colour scheme, love it) and swapped out a few parts for more gaming-suited ones. I chose a low response time 1440p monitor, and a good non-mech keyboard with a brilliant mouse. I wish I could get my hands on a Corsair M65 RGB, man, they're impressively good. I would have picked a Razer Naga, but it would ruin the colour scheme :p
