What is the cheapest CPU I can use to flash my ASUS B85M-G? I have an i5-4690k, but the bios are not up to date for this. Preferably one that's for sale at Fry's, so that I can return it immediately afterwards.
Thanks!

Can you look at the box "MFD DATE" that will tell you a Range of possible BIOS versions, if your 7/2013 and above you have at least 0705.

Here is the CPU support list related to Bios versions.

Why would you buy a I5 4690"K" and run it on a B85? You do know you wont be able to Overclock much and what you can do is going to be a pain in the arse? Your better off getting either a Z97 Board or a I5 4690.

You also should be able to Update the Bios without a CPU using the Bios Flash Tool which will run off a USB, if you can't figure it out then a Intel Celeron G1850 $54ish will work.

Then you can probably assume it's the earliest. What I would recommend is taking the motherboard to Fry's and asking them to flash the BIOS for you. Otherwise, you're looking at a $180+ processor (Core I5-4430 apparently not available at Fry's).

Yo wolf, sorry I can't figure out how to just send a normal reply on the Tom's Hardware mobile site. I tried calling Fry's and had to be transferred to 3 different people before one had even a vague idea of what I was talking about, and he told me that they could not do it.
I'll try the flashback thing if I can, I had no clue that was an option.

Read that Article I posted you will find out how to Update the bios without a CPU, I also stated the G1850 will load without a Bios update. Most stores wont Flash a BIOS for you without Charging a fee most of the time it is $50 or more.

This is a 2 year old Board Wolf the odds of him having Bios 0306 are very...very...very low. You know how Fry's and Micro Center work, they don't like having anything on the self for longer than 6 months, when a product hits that time they will Clearance the item out or drop a price bomb to move it.

TurtleBios Updater isn't on that board  it isn't on any B85,Q87, or H81 sorry for the confusion, can you look at the box and find out what Bios you have or boot to Bios and read then post the #.

Whoosh, what's a man to do? Fry's has a pisspoor selection but if I return this board there they'll likely only give me store credit. I knew I should have just ordered online, and not literally the most frugal board I could find.

You may be skeptical, but I have scoured every single square inch of the box and nowhere does it say the manufacturing date. Maybe I'm just dense, but the closest thing I could find to any sort of date whatsoever was in the manual.

Thank you guys for the help, I would be pulling my hair out without you.

You can buy the BIOS chip fully updated but the only suppliers are overseas. Or G1820 $38 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Intel-Celeron-G1820-Haswell-Processor-2-7GHz-5-0GT-s-2MB-LGA-1150-CPU-Stock-/351547092859?hash=item51d9d6ef7b:g:dFYAAOSwwbdWG2jh Since this is Guaranteed to work. After you have solved your issue put it back up on Ebay and you should break even. I'm really sorry for making this longer than it should, I should have double checked to make sure that Board had the Updater feature I have grown use to using.

When you purchase a lower end board always makes sure they supply you with the Bios version or MFD date, if you know that then you have a strong clue on the Bios support. There should always be a slip of paper or stamp somewhere on the board or Box that states the MFD date. Lot number, Factory and MFD date is also included in the SKU number " Number on the Bar code" to the Manufacturer.
