I was given an ASUS M5A97 Rev. 2.0 Mobo that is supposed to be good and memory.
I have an older ATX case
I purchase..
When I power on the PC I can access the bios, see all the hardware, cpu is recognized as is the memory.
But when I drop in a Windows install disk the systems says to click any button to boot form the cd rom. If I click a button the ASUS splash screen appears and nothing else.
If I do not press any key the blue four pane window splash appears and then freezes.
In both cases the CD rom spins.
I have also tried a bootable thumb drive I have and it starts to load the files and then freezes. Same as the cd ... but a different splash screen.
I have updated to the bios to the latest as I want this to be a test win 10 machine.
I have un-plugged all components leaving only the CD rom .. same result.
Unplugged the cd rom leaving only on-board hardware connections (IE:rear usb ports) and tried the bootable thumb drive. same result.
Note the bios sees all the hardware and even an external cd rom I tried.
Sorry for the long post but this has me stumped. Could the mobo be bad? It and the memory are the only used items. I installed only one stick and then swapped it for the other with the same result.
Ideas would be appreciated.
