Can I buy components for PC Builds later on?

If I pick up some memory on black Friday, could I leave it in a drawer for a few months until I need it for a PC build? What if I did this with other parts? Would it affect performance?

I've done this a few times, it's perfectly safe to store equipment almost indefinitely, though there's no guarantee that there's a financial reason to do so (if you wait more than 3-6mo, prices usually drop anyway)

Computer parts are really hard to break if you keep them in a dry place, away from static charge, they should be ok. So try to not store it in a room with carpeted floors. But other than that they're built to withstand years of intense heat/cold and be fine so just sitting on a shelf won't hurt them. Like basroil said only really buy it if it's a great deal. If it's 10% off ddr3 now, in a few months it'll be 20% off.
