I have a gateway dx4860-ub32p with an upgraded graphics card from stock to a gt 440, I would like to know if a gtx960 would work for this computer.

You will need to upgrade the power supply or use an nVidia 750. I wold not use the Ti version, seems that system comes with a 300 watt PSU, without knowing the quality of it (if Gateway likely not very good), I would not go with a Ti model which needs a bit more power than a 750.

700w would be more than enough power as long as it is of a good quality. Go over to the components forum and look at the power supply tier list sticky to help make a decision on a new one. I'd go 500-600w but if you plan to keep upgrading you may want to go higher.
